Factors affecting the lifespan of deep groove ball bearings

2024-06-05

The material of deep groove ball bearings largely determines the service life of the bearings, and the metallurgical quality of bearing steel GCr15 was once the main cause of early failure of rolling bearings. After significant advancements in metallurgical technology and the emergence of materials such as bearing steel, significant improvements have been made.

In the failure analysis of bearings, the proportion of bearing failures caused by raw materials has also been greatly improved, but manufacturing materials are still the main cause of bearing failures, which is closely related to the service life of deep groove ball bearings. The manufacturing process of bearings is complex and requires multiple processes to obtain finished products. The technical capabilities and completion quality of forging, heat treatment, turning, and grinding processes will affect the service life and application effect of bearings, especially the heat treatment and grinding processes, which are the direct causes of many bearing failures and need to be highly valued by production enterprises.

After the installation of deep groove ball bearings, in order to check whether the installation is correct, a running inspection should be carried out. Small machinery can be rotated by hand to determine if it rotates smoothly. The inspection items mainly include poor operation caused by foreign objects and pressure marks, unstable torque caused by poor installation and processing of the installation seat, excessive torque caused by small clearance, installation errors, sealing friction, and so on. If there are no abnormalities, power operation can begin.

In the shaft and bearing seat, the bearing requires its position to be fixed in three directions: radial, axial, and tangential. Radial and tangential positioning are achieved through tight fitting of bearing rings, while axial positioning is only achieved in a few cases using tight fitting; Generally, axial limiting components such as end caps and retaining rings are used to limit the axial position within the clearance range.

When choosing cooperation, the following four points should be emphasized:

(1) The circumferential surface of the bearing ring should have good support and uniform force distribution to reduce deformation and fully utilize the bearing's load-bearing capacity.

(2) The collar cannot slide along the tangential direction on its mating surface, otherwise it will damage the mating surface.

(3) The free end bearing must be able to adapt to the length changes of the shaft and bearing seat hole, that is, it must have the ability to move within a certain range of axial position.

(4) Attention must be paid to making the installation and disassembly of deep groove ball bearings easy, saving labor, time, and expenses.
